About Darla Luke

Darla Luke grew up in the concrete jungle of California, where her mother—an avid reader—passed down a lifelong love of books. As a pre-teen, Darla devoured anything she could get her hands on: The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings trilogy (long before they hit the big screen), and every Nancy Drew mystery she could find. She dreamed of chasing clues, solving crimes, and maybe even tagging along with the Hardy Boys.

In her teen years, she fell headlong into the world of romance—discovering Georgette Heyer, Barbara Cartland, and the Harlequin Readers Club—and she was hooked.

Today, Darla lives on a century farm in Oregon’s Willamette Valley with her family, where she loves spinning new stories.

If someone had told her she’d grow up to be an author, she would’ve laughed herself silly. Now, she can’t imagine doing anything else. Darla writes about strong, resilient women who rise from hardship and find the courage to fight for what’s right—and in The Nightwatcher Vigilante series, that spirit comes alive through Kara Hunter, a fearless vigilante who refuses to back down when justice demands a champion.

Learn More About Darla Luke

Q: What inspired you to write the Nightwatcher Vigilante series?
A: Kara Hunter didn’t so much arrive as she demanded to be written. She came to me several years ago—fully formed, relentless, and unwilling to be ignored. She’s not just a heroine; she’s a protector. The kind of woman who steps in when the system fails. I’ve always believed everyone needs a hero—and Kara Hunter is mine.

Q: You previously wrote romance—what made you shift to thrillers?
A: The shift felt natural. I still care deeply about emotion and connection, but I was drawn to something darker, sharper—stories where justice is complicated, and the stakes are life and death. Kara gave me the opportunity to explore that world through the lens of a strong, unapologetic heroine who refuses to look away.

Q: How would you describe your writing style?
A: Cinematic, fast-paced, and grounded in emotion. I love the tension you can feel in your chest, the quiet moments that carry weight, and the characters who are forced to make impossible choices. At its core, my work explores the line between justice and revenge—and what it costs to cross it.

Q: What does a typical day look like when you’re not writing?
A: Life is a mix of creativity and a little chaos. When I’m not writing, I’m spending time on our 100-acre farm with my family or wrangling chickens who are convinced she’s their personal food truck.

Q: What’s next for you?
A: I’m diving fully into writing the third book in this series, and it’s the most exciting place I’ve ever been creatively. There are more stories to tell, more secrets waiting in the shadows—and Kara Hunter is just getting started.
